An island in the Genkai Sea about 67 km northwest of Hakata Port, about 17 km north to south and 15 km east to west. It appears in the Chinese chronicle Wei Zhi (Records of the Wa) and is home to the Harunotsuji site, one of Japan's largest moated settlements. In summer many people come for its sea, chosen as one of Japan's 100 best beaches.
