You reach Okushiri by boat from Esashi Port. The car ferry from Esashi Port takes 2 h 10 min and costs ¥3,490 one way for an adult. You can also fly from Hakodate Airport or Sapporo Okadama Airport.
An island in the Sea of Japan at the southwestern tip of Hokkaido, 61 km northwest of Esashi. It is 84 km around with an area of about 143 km², the largest in Hokkaido after Rishiri. Seafood such as sea urchin and abalone are specialties, and the island has hot springs.

Karanse Okushiri. Times are for Oct 1 to Nov 30, 2026 (Esashi 13:00 → Okushiri 15:10; Okushiri 7:00 → Esashi 9:10). From Dec 1 to Dec 31: departs Esashi 13:00 (arrives 15:20) and Okushiri 7:30. There are 2 round trips in periods such as Jul 1 to Aug 31. Extra sailings run on some days (on Oct 16: Esashi 18:00, Okushiri 15:30). Because of berth improvement work at Esashi Port, from Oct 1, 2026 to Feb 28, 2027 (planned) the ferry uses the Shin-Kita Pier berth, and a free shuttle bus runs from in front of the ferry terminal (complete check-in at least 40 minutes before departure). The fare is 2nd class from the fare table for Oct 1 to Dec 31, 2026 (fuel surcharge 0 yen). Cars can be reserved from 9:00 on the same date 2 months ahead.
